Teacher Training and Registration

Through a grant from TXU Energy, the NEED Project hosts and facilitates the TXU Energy Solar Academy Workshops for educators. Training workshops for approximately 600 educators are hosted in TXU Energy communities throughout the school year. Occasionally, a request for a district in-service is possible. Please contact NEED at 1-800-875-5029.

The TXU Energy Solar Academy workshops are packed with energizing curriculum and classroom learning. The workshops provide content and background on energy, electricity, and solar energy for teachers while helping educators meet the TEKS and providing the resources needed to teach energy in the classroom. Lesson plans are prepared and ready for use immediately in the classroom and the web-based monitoring of the local PV installations allows teachers and students an authentic learning experience – seeing PV and the generation of electricity from the sun in action (no moving parts – but a great learning experience!).

The workshops include up-to-date information on all aspects of energy, including the science of energy, sources of energy, consumption, electricity, efficiency, and environmental and economic impacts.

Workshop participants receive the instruction and materials to implement innovative hands-on energy units in their classrooms.

Who may attend? K-12 public schools for 2009. Registration will only be available for selected TXU Energy Solar Academy school districts initially and will be available for open registration 1 week prior to the event.

What’s the cost? TXU Energy’s contribution to NEED provides substitute reimbursement for teachers attending the workshops; breakfast, lunch, and parking are also provided at no cost.
